UPS BATTERIES

(UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY)

Powertron: West Coast Distributor of CSB Batteries

A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) battery provides backup power during a power outage.

It acts as an immediate power source, allowing select devices to run uninterrupted until the lights come back on. It ensures that vital equipment, such as computers and servers, remains operational without data loss.

Powertron is a leading distributor of UPS and OEM batteries nationwide through our shipping network.

How Do UPS Batteries Differ from Standard Battery Backup?

  • Both systems provide emergency power, but the difference lies in their response time and protection features.
  • UPS batteries offer near-instantaneous power protection. Battery backup systems, on the other hand, might have a delayed response, which could interrupt the power to servers and other mission-critical devices.
  • Most UPS systems include additional features like voltage regulation, surge protection, and monitoring. Compared to basic battery backup, UPS is a more complete power management solution.

Benefits of a UPS Battery System

  • UPS systems supply near-instant power in emergencies, safeguarding against data loss.
  • They offer protection from voltage spikes, which can damage sensitive electronics.
  • They ensure that essential devices continue to operate without interruption, preventing productivity losses.
  • They allow for the safe shutdown of computers and other devices, protecting data integrity.
  • UPS units stabilize the power supply. They mitigate voltage fluctuations and safeguard equipment from harm.

UPS Batteries FAQ

What are UPS Batteries?

UPS batteries are the batteries within Uninterrupted Power Supply devices. These devices are intended to provide power for short periods of time during power outages. They are often used to support computers, data centers and telecommunication equipment. The assistance is instantaneous, ensuring that machines will not shut down during a power outage, giving the user time to save data. The UPS device provides power until the main source of power comes back on. In addition, UPS devices protect machines from other power irregularities such as power surges, low power, etc.

Why Do You Need to Replace Your UPS Battery?

Over time, all batteries degrade, and the chemical make-up that keeps the battery running, fails. Some factors that contribute to battery failure are extreme heat, humidity, cold, and avoiding excessive discharge. Excessive discharge may occur if the main power source is off for an extended period of time.

When Do You Need to Replace Your UPS Battery?

UPS devices typically have an alert system that lets you know when your UPS unit is experiencing battery troubles. It’s best to wait for the UPS device to emit a low battery alarm as batteries have limited shelf-life. Once you’re sure that you have a battery problem, you can often replace the battery yourself or hire a quality battery provider to do so. Alternatively, you may replace the entire UPS unit.

How Often Should I replace my UPS Batteries?

Replace your UPS battery when the low battery light shows, or the unit shows other signs of failure. Even if the low battery alarm doesn’t go off, other alarms or signs of failure show due to a battery failure. A battery that has gone bad is one of the most common problems with UPS units.

How long Do UPS Batteries Last?

UPS batteries typically last a few years, depending on their use. However, in areas where prolonged power outages occur, battery life may be shorter. This is because excessive discharge may cause the battery to wear out and reduce its capacity.
How can I care for my UPS battery?
Batteries require maintenance and special care to keep them working in optimum conditions. In order to avoid premature battery failure, make sure that you take care of your UPS unit properly by following some of these steps:

  • Store your unit in a cool, dry place. You should also avoid extreme cold. Extreme heat can cause the battery to bulge and leak, creating a dangerous situation.
  • If you are keeping your UPS or just the batteries in storage, their lifespan continues to deplete. To avoid complete degradation, make sure you plug in the unit or recharge the battery every few months. Otherwise, the battery may fail completely in as little as 6 months.
  • Do preventative maintenance. Make sure you check out your unit’s battery periodically. This way you can look for things like fluid levels and corrosion, as well as perform voltage testing.
